Listen: Friendly Fires & The Asphodells Stream ‘Before Your Eyes’
Listen to Friendly Fires’ first new material since 2011’s ‘Pala’.
, Andrew Weatherall and Timothy J Fairplay decided to collaborate on a whim, not out of some ‘Oh shit, we’ve got to look busy because we haven’t released a record since 2011’ calculated decision. At least, that’s presumably the case.
Friendly Fires’ first collaborative track with The Asphodells is a great, ambling giant, more aligned with the likes of The Horrors or Factory Floor than the sharp, tropical pop of 2011’s ‘Pala’. Ticking all of the progressive and experimental boxes, it also packs a barrage of hooks at its centre. More retiring and in the background than usual, Ed Macfarlane still manages to get centre stage. ‘Before Your Eyes’/’Velo’ is released on 31st March through Telophase.
