Listen: Mapei Streams New ‘Don’t Wait’ Single
Mapei joins the label behind Gnarls Barkley and Santigold - it’s easy to see why.

Say hello to Mapei, a new signing to Downtown Records (Santigold, Cold War Kids, Gnarls Barkley). Her debut single ‘Don’t Wait’ is R&B in the loosest sense. Sure, the core of the songwriting nods to the genre, but what surrounds it is inventive to the furthest degree.
Vocals are layered three-fold, to the point where the Stockholm-based newcomer sounds close to fellow Scandi effect-obsessive Karin Dreijer from The Knife. The production is ridiculous, flipping a conventional rallying cry into so-called ’21st-century gospel’.
