THE GIG
Deafkid support Vessels - London, Cargo
There’s something quite daunting about Deafkid. They’re studio veterans, in the grand scheme of things, with experience as Ghostpoet’s backing band. But this still doesn’t account for how refined, ultra-explorative their latest material is. Something remarkable has landed, so you’d be in good company by checking them out tonight.
THE SONG
Noble Savage - Bloom
Bloom by Noble Savage
Not sure how an act of savagery can be noble, but this new Victoria export has its head firmly screwed on. ‘Bloom’ is half rooted in the sunshine dazzle of Panda Bear’s ‘Person Pitch - all dictaphone samples and heady acoustic work - half opting for songwriting clarity, only a couple of intelligent songs away from declaring itself ready competition for Vampire Weekend. One of the finest introductions we’ve heard in weeks. Welcome Noble Savage.
OTHER NEU BUSINESS
Rejjie Snow x Sun Patzer - ‘294’
Goodness knows this track doesn’t last nearly long enough, but anything citing FIFA and itchy microphones has to be doing something right. Rejjie Snow is a Dublin-based rapper recently signed to XL imprint Kaya Kaya. He’s more gap-toothed than Mac DeMarco, and more exciting than 98% of the rest of the competition. Yep, this is the real deal.
Festival special! Featuring Wolf Alice, Kasabian, Lykke Li, Marmozets, Genesis Owusu and more.
