Latitude 2015 The Twilight Sad look ahead to Latitude: “We’re all really big Portishead fans”

The Twilight Sad will join DIY at Latitude this weekend, to help celebrate the festival’s 10th birthday. “We’re really looking forward to it,” says the band’s frontman James Graham, who when we speak to him is at home recovering from the chickenpox. Poor guy. “We got back from a ten week tour and soon after I looked like a needed an exorcism,” he explains. “I am looking a little better now though.”

“We played [Latitude] back in 2008. We played the main stage at 3pm and scared a lot of families having a nice picnic but I remember gaining a lot of new fans that day. I went down for the weekend to camp out and experience the whole festival, I had a really great time apart from my car being written off on the way down to the festival due to some arsehole driving into the back of me. I’m pretty sure I had whiplash but I drank through it. I’m looking forward to playing in a dark tent, I think that suits us a lot more.”

The band will be playing on a line up that also includes headliners Alt-J, Portishead and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, as well as James Blake, Warpaint, Wolf Alice, Years & Years, Laura Marling and loads, loads more. “Our friends Aidan Moffat and Bill Wells have just been announced,” says James, “so I’m looking forward to seeing them. We’re all really big Portishead fans so we’ll all be watching them. I’d also like to see Savages, Caribou, James Blake, Wild Beasts, The Manics and Young Fathers.”

Latitude is one of just a handful of festivals the band are performing at this year. “We played SXSW in Austin Texas which was great,” James remembers. “We played about 10 gigs in three days. It was at the end of our US tour and there were a lot of familiar faces at the festival so it was nice to hang out and get drunk with friends after being on tour for a while. We’re going to start writing our new album over the summer,” he adds. “We have some special gigs and a special release lined up for the autumn / winter, and spending some quality time in the pub.”
