In the magazine October 2025

Featuring The Last Dinner Party, Jay Som, Kojey Radical, Militarie Gun and more.

While it might feel like it was just yesterday that The Last Dinner Party were playing at London’s MOTH Club for us (before even having released a note of music), the quintet are now three years on, and have two BRIT Awards, a Number One under their belts, and another storming record on the way. Naturally, we can’t wait for what’s to come, so we’re thrilled to be welcoming the band back to DIY’s October 2025 cover for round two; this time, in celebration of their glorious new album ‘From The Pyre’.

“It was about pushing ourselves and each other beyond what our defined roles maybe were in album one, and trying new things on our own instruments, and being a bit more collaborative,” explains bassist Georgia Davies, discussing TLDP’s open-minded approach to recording. “It was saying: ‘we’re pushing ourselves and each other because we want to do something even better, rather than because it’s important to prove it to anyone else’.”

Elsewhere this month, we talk community and creativity with Kojey Radical after the release of his latest LP ‘Don’t Look Down’; get into girls bathroom etiquette with Ashnikko to mark her second record ‘Smoochies’; and enter the smoky, seductive world of Luvcat, as she readies her debut full-length. We also learn more about Jay Som’s outward-facing, collaborative new chapter; circle back with Militarie Gun on the habits and hard-won lessons that informed their sophomore outing; and go In Deep to find out whether breakout rockers Geese are worth the hype (spoiler: they really are).

Over in this month’s Neu section - aka your essential guide to all things new music - we meet LA firecrackers Rocket, celebrate cultural unity with Falkirk five-piece Brògeal, and learn precisely why Chiedu Oraka can call Chris Martin a fan. Plus, we also deliver the DIY verdicts on Autumn’s biggest musical talking points (Oasis, Taylor - we’re looking at you) and head North to Newcastle for the 2025 Mercury Prize. Next stop, the Toon!
