Arlo Parks reveals new track ‘Blades’
It’s the third preview from her forthcoming new album ‘My Soft Machine’.

Arlo Parks has offered up another preview of her forthcoming new album ‘My Soft Machine’.
The singer - who is also the cover star of our April 2023 issue - has shared groove-laden new track ‘Blades’, the third offering to be taken from her second album. It follows on from previous singles ‘Impurities’ and ‘Weightless’.
Speaking of the inspiration behind ‘Blades’, Arlo has said: “I imagine this moment at a party where you see someone across the room that you haven’t seen in a while, you felt yourself growing apart, and you’re like, should I, should I not? And then you find the courage to approach them. That’s the story of that song.”
The track was produced by Paul Epworth during what Arlo refers to as “the magic week” - the period when the pair produced three songs for the album together in just five days. “Paul is just a wizard,” Arlo says, in a press release. “He has this childlike spirit that I’ve always really loved and he brought that to ‘Blades’. I wanted to make something that I can dance to, finally, because I feel like my songs don’t really have that quality in general. So, I took inspiration from bands like ESG, artists like Kaytranada, and a lot of the kind of 70s Zambian psychedelic rock that I love.”
Check out the video for ‘Blades’ - as directed by Bedroom at Compulsory Film - below. Arlo is set to release her new album ‘My Soft Machine’ on 26th May via Transgressive Records and to celebrate, she’ll be playing a slew of live shows. Check out her upcoming live dates below.
