Austra celebrate the art of being idle in ‘Future Politics’ video

It’s the latest single from the album of the same name.

Canadian electro-pop outfit Austra have announced a brand new album ‘Future Politics,’ which comes out on 20th January.

Mastermind Katie Stelmanis said that the LP is about “not just hope in the future, but the idea that everyone is required to help write it, and the boundaries of what it can look like are both fascinating and endless. It’s not about ‘being political,’ it’s about reaching beyond boundaries, in every single field.” It focuses on the little things, then.

The video for the LP’s pulsating title track is just a little bit dystopian, as everyone in a stylised industrial environment seems to have fallen victim to a bad case of laziness. Katie and director Allie Avital said: “Future Politics is the breaking down of paradigms. In this video, we wanted to explore what a world might look like if our values were transformed: instead of glorifying labour, maybe we could learn to glorify the act of doing absolutely nothing.” Not sure we could get away with that on a work day, mind.

Austra have also announced a huge European tour taking place in March and April, which includes a handful of UK dates.

Watch the video for ‘Future Politics’ and their UK dates below.

MARCH
21 Brighton, Patterns
22 London, Village Underground
