Bastille unveil new single ‘Quarter Past Midnight’

It’s the lead single from the band’s forthcoming third album.

Rejoice! Bastille have released new single ‘Quarter Past Midnight’.

It’s the lead single from the band’s upcoming third album, which will be the follow-up to 2016’s ‘Wild World’. The track was unveiled on BBC Radio 1 as the band’s Dan Smith sat in for Annie Mac alongside Nick Grimshaw.

Of the track, Dan says: ““It’s just about trying to capture that Sliding Doors moment on a night out. Some people are gonna go home; for some this is just the beginning. It became about being in someone’s car, driving through the city, and I wanted to try and capture that sense of excitement, and that rush.”

We recently had a chat with Bastille ahead of their huge show at the Royal Albert Hall, where they performed with a fifteen-strong string section, where Dan confirmed the new album is “completely finished”. He added: “With this record we want to make something that was way more cohesive… It’s shorter and there’s a slight throwback feel to some of the songs. It’s almost like the apocalypse is happening outside but, for a minute, shutting the curtains to that and enjoying what you’ve got for a second, which I think is a completely valid and sane thing to do.”
