Bestival to host new festival in Southampton
The first ‘Common People’ to take place in May.
The team behind Bestival have announced a new annual event to take place in Southampton.
The Common People event will take place on the May bank holiday weekend of the 23rd and 24th on the city’s common.
Rob Da Bank (pictured), head of Bestival and Common People’s curator, has described the event as “bringing the blithe spirit of Bestival right to the heart of the city”, and is the Bestival team’s first new venture since the introduction of Dorset’s Camp Bestival event, which launched in 2008.
Speaking more about the venture, the DJ said: “We have been inundated with offers to start new festivals every year but it wasn’t until we found the beautiful site of the Common that we felt it was right to start a new chapter in Bestival’s history. This isn’t a camping show, it’s not a tents, wellies and car packed to the rafters experience… it’s a metropolitan two day show.”
This year’s Bestival was headlined by Foals, Beck, Outkast and Chic. Read the DIY review here and watch Foals perform ‘My Number’ at the event below.
No theme has yet been announced for the event, but next year’s Camp Bestival is set to centre around a ‘Wild’ theme, while this year’s Bestival was turned into a desert island disco.
Featuring Yard Act, Death Cab For Cutie, Graham Coxon, Maisie Peters and more.
