Blur aren’t headlining Glastonbury, says Dave Rowntree
Drummer rules the group out of a bill-topping Worthy Farm appearance.
Blur drummer Dave Rowntree has gone on record to state that the band won’t be headlining Glastonbury in 2015.
The band have been linked with a bill-topping Worthy Farm appearance since returning with news of their forthcoming ‘The Magic Whip’ album. And following Kanye West’s confirmation as a Saturday headliner, Blur have been further linked with a slot on the Pyramid Stage.
However, speaking to XFM, Rowntree denied that Blur would be headlining. He went on to discuss the industry’s problem with developing new headliners.
“I think there is a problem in that there aren’t that many bands who can headline big festivals at the moment. The music industry’s missing a middle roster, a middle section of artists who are big at the moment but have enough back catalogue to headline a big festival,” he said.
“I think a lot of festivals are going to have to think out the box a little bit,” he continued, before praising the Eavis family’s ability to “do the unexpected thing.”
New album ‘The Magic Whip’ is out 27th April - hear the opening track, ‘Lonesome Street’.
Blur play a headline show at British Summer Time in London’s Hyde Park on 20th June, with support coming from Metronomy, Drenge and The Horrors. They’re also confirmed to headline Benicassim 2015, in Spain.
