Brand New are up to something…

The Long Island band have confirmed they’re currently in the studio but have offered up some other clues.

It’s no secret that Brand New like to be a bit mysterious. In their latest endeavour to drop hints - but never reveal too much - they’ve actually gone and stated the obvious: Brand New are in the studio. It’s scrawled across their official website.

There are, however, a few extra tidbits of information for fans to try and get their heads around. Underneath the confirmation of their current status, the words ‘Proscrastinate! Pogolith Earth Sound Alliance 2015’ are written. There are now a fair few theories as to what these words might be referencing, as both PropertyofZack and Alternative Press have pointed out:

‘Proscrastinate’ could be a reference to the label Porcrastinate Music Traitors, which was formed by Brand New a handful of years ago, and has since released Kevin Devine’s 2006 record ‘Put Your Ghost To Rest’. The label also released the band’s ‘Devil and God are Raging Inside Me’ on vinyl back in 2010.

‘PoGolith’ is thought to reference an Instagram made by New York-based studio The Up Studio, who recently uploaded a pixelated image with the caption ‘Information is Beautiful. (Keep an eye on your mailboxes!)’ and the hashtag ‘#pogolith’.

‘Earth Sound Alliance’ could well be referring to the LLC that’s owned by the band’s drummer Brian Lane, which - according to a trademark site found by AltPress - deals with ‘Sound amplifiers, instrument sound effect pedals, loud speakers, loud speaker cabinets, and cables.’

There’s also the small matter of a link in the top right-hand corner of their website that reads ‘HYPE’. Click it and a video by The One and Only PPL MVR appears, for a track - unsurprisingly - titled ‘People Mover’ opens up. Head to the video’s description and you can open up a website that boasts a rather terrifying photo of three men dressed as furry monsters, and allows you to download the track. The band, who are signed to Elektra Records, are seemingly a bit of a mystery, but recently showed up at a Red Bull screening of This Is Spinal Tap. (And, if you needed anymore swaying, it looks like Joe Jonas is a fan as well.)

What any of this all means is anyone’s guess, but if the band’s drummer’s last dalliance into clue-giving was anything to go by - he created a huge nationwide treasure hunt as part of the lead-up to the release of his solo moniker Shone’s debut ‘Heat Thing’ - there could be an endless list of possibilities. At least they’re in the studio, right?

Brand New’s latest album ‘Daisy’ was released back in 2010.
