BRIT Awards announce 2019 statue designer
Architect Sir David Adjaye will have the honour for next year’s event.
With past designers having included Vivienne Westwood, Tracey Emin, Dame Zaha Hadid, Pam Hogg (whose designs are pictured) and Anish Kapoor, the BRIT Awards bosses have today revealed who’ll be behind the designs for next year’s statue.
Ghanaian-British architect Sir David Adjaye has the honour - he’s best known for his much larger works, including the Smithsonian National Museum of African and American History and Culture in Washington, DC, the Nobel Peace Centre in Oslo, as well as the in-progress Holocaust Memorial and Learning Centre in London.
The statues are being made in partnership with Czech glassmaking and design company LASVIT.
“Sir David Adjaye has been responsible for some of the most striking and innovative architectural designs in the world. This creative and artistic vision is executed perfectly with the new BRIT award bringing yet another level of excellence and quality to the statue design,” said BRITs Chairman Jason Iley.
Sir David responded: “I am so delighted and honoured to be appointed. The BRITs are an iconic, eponymous celebration of British creativity and a true testimony to the wealth of talent working and supporting, making and producing and creating music both in this country and globally - it is an absolute pleasure to be given the opportunity to participate in honouring fellow creatives in this way.”
Next year’s BRIT Awards take place on 20th February at London’s O2 Arena.
Featuring Yard Act, Death Cab For Cutie, Graham Coxon, Maisie Peters and more.
