Expect “a champagne shower of badass pop” from Charli XCX’s third album
“I’m doing a mixtape also that will come out before then” added our Chaz.
After promising a new album in May - if she doesn’t get bored and leak the whole thing before that, that is - Charli XCX has spilled yet more beans about what to expect from album number three. To be precise: “a champagne shower of badass pop”. Fair play.
Speaking about recent single ‘After the Afterparty’ in relation to the new album, our Chaz called it “half representative” adding “it’s a big pop party album.” She also dropped in another casual bit of news - she’s releasing a new mixtape before May. “I’m doing a mixtape also that will come out before then and I’ve been working with lots of fun people on that,” she said.
“On my previous record,” Charli told Rolling Stone, “I was really annoyed at the music industry and felt like I had something to prove. After that, I didn’t feel I had anything to prove anymore. Also one of my favorite hobbies is partying, and I realized that I never actually made a party album. I never made an album that I would want to hear at a club. It was very indulgent in that sense because I just wanted to make an album that I could get fucked up to. It’s the soundtrack to my nights.”
Asked about her ideal night out, Charli didn’t really hold back on specifics. “Some really great vehicles, like multiple, different vehicles. SUVs, limousines must be included, preferably white. Lots of champagne and a really great driver, who isn’t drinking,” she added, more responsibly. “Just want to add that in.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Charli XCX confirmed that go-to collaborator Sophie will be “pretty involved” in the new record, along with “a special feature” she has to keep secret.
