Circa Waves: "We’re going to be responsible for a new baby boom"

Liverpool’s Circa Waves have arrived at their first Reading & Leeds as one of the festival’s most hotly anticipated new bands. Last night (23rd August) they played a packed-out set in the Festival Republic Stage.

“I wouldn’t wanna play any other stage at any other time,” guitarist Joe Falconer told DIY. “For us, as a small band you can’t turn up at a big festival and connect straight away with a big empty space.”

He continued: “I remember seeing like Foals for the first time [in 2007] and I realised festivals can be one of the most important things for young teenage experiences. I remember I got my results and got straight on the train with some cans. Not many people went from my school.”

Circa Waves’ festival season hasn’t been shy of remarkable moments. Their Glastonbury set played host to a proposal from a member of the crowd. “There’s that much love in our set. If it doesn’t happen now at a gig, it’s a bad gig for us. We’re going to be responsible for a new baby boom - we’re sorting out the generation gap,” they joked.
