Coldplay, Lorde, Lana Del Rey nominated for Oscar Best Original Song award
87th Academy Awards also picks numbers from Kendrick Lamar, Bon Iver and Sia.
The 87th Academy Awards has revealed its 79-song shortlist for the Best Original Song Oscar in 2015.
Most prominent of these is Coldplay, Lana Del Rey, Lorde, Bon Iver and The Shins, with the winner announced on 15th January.
Lorde’s ‘Yellow Flicker Beat’ is up for contention, with the New Zealander having curated the entire soundtrack for ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1’. Elsewhere, Coldplay are nominated with “Miracles’, the recently unveiled song from an Angelina Jolie-directed film, ‘Unbroken’.
Bon Iver’s ‘Heavenly Father’ and The Shins’ ‘So Now What’ - both from Zach Braff’s ‘Wish I Was Here’ have made the shortlist, with Lana Del Rey’s ‘Big Eyes’ (from a film of the same name) and Sia’s ‘Opportunity’ (from Annie) also in contention.
Sia, Lana Del Rey and Lorde have also been nominated for the Best Original Song Golden Globe, alongside Lenny Kaye for ‘Mercy Is’ and John Legend and Common’s ‘Glory’.
Fall Out Boy’s ‘Immortals’ is also in the shortlist, alongside Pharrell Williams and Gwen Stefani’s ‘Shine’ and Alicia Keys and Kendrick Lamar’s ‘It’s On Again’.
