Concert For Japan Cancelled Due To Lack Of Artist Commitment

The London-based Concert For Japan has been cancelled.

The event was due to take place next month in the capital in order to raise money for relief campaigns following the Japanese natural disaster. The benefit was expected to take place at Wembley arena was to be broadcast live by the BBC.

Live Nation was working alongside major labels Universal and Sony to put on the charity event; however due to artist availability, the gig has been indefinitely postponed. Speaking to Music Week, a spokesperson from Live Nation said:

‘Unfortunately, with now only 13 days to go to the proposed Concert For Japan, sadly we are in a position where we have been unable to secure the artists required to produce the worldwide TV broadcast that we had hoped for and have therefore very reluctantly decided to proceed no further.’

Many other artists have moved to raise money for the Japanese relief funds, including Fleet Foxes who auctioned rare vinyl; Feeder who are to release a fundraising single and The Morning Benders who will release a special EP.

Other music events set to take place to raise money include the ATP benefit concert, which will take place at the Kentish Town Forum, London, on Thursday 21st April as well as an event at London’s Brixton Academy featuring Beady Eye, Graham Coxon, Primal Scream, The Coral, Richard Ashcroft and Paul Weller.

A charity compilation with contributions from Rihanna, U2 and Foo Fighters amongst others has also been released and is available to buy now.
