Dan Croll puts on his dancing shoes in ‘One Of Us’ video

The hazy, primary-coloured new clip accompanies Dan’s ace new single - watch it first on DIY.

Last week, Dan Croll finally followed up last year’s charming debut album ‘Sweet Disarray’ with a taster of things to come. New single ‘One Of Us’ is a perfect slice of vibrant indie-pop filtered through a psychedelic haze, and DIY have the first play on its technicolour accompanying video.

Set against a flip-book background of various block colours, the clip (directed by Edmund Fraser and Dan Kleinsman) sees a three-dimensional Croll relish his one-man-band potential, chopping and changing his instrument of choice with every new shot and hopping around like the Energizer bunny after a gallon of Lucozade. To that end, it’s the perfect accompaniment to ‘One Of Us” classic pop sensibility.

There’s a darker edge to things though, as Dan explains the track “was written about peer pressure, and around the time I was watching a lot of cult documentaries, cults like ‘heavens gate’, ‘the source family’ and ‘scientology’. I was baffled by how the cult leaders managed to entice members in with promises of a greater life outside this one on earth. All of these videos had the same kind of look to them, the old school VHS style that made them look almost mannequin-esque, this is where I stumbled on Ed’s 3D videos and thought they’d work brilliantly to make me appear like one of them. I guess we were going for the cult orientation video aesthetic.”

Fall under Dan’s spell with DIY’s first play of the ‘One Of Us’ video below, and catch Mr. Croll on any of the following UK dates this winter.
