Daniel Johnston To Play Second UK Date, With British Sea Power As Backing Band

The Brighton five-piece will play as Johnston’s band in London and Brighton this April and will also perform an acoustic set in support.

British Sea Power are to play as Daniel Johnston’s backing band for his forthcoming UK shows, with a London date now also added to his visit.

The legendary 51-year-old American musician was confirmed to visit Brighton as part of a wider European tour this April - and it’s now been revealed that he’ll also play in London during the visit, with British Sea Power to play as his backing band for both shows.

The Brighton five-piece, who released their fifth album Valhalla Dancehall in January of last year, will perform under the name Texan Sea Power for the pair of dates, and will also perform an acoustic set in support of Johnston, minus lead guitarist Martin Noble.

The Brighton date will take place at St Bartholomew’s Church on the evening of 16th April, organised by local label and promoters One Inch Badge, while the London show will be at the Union Chapel on 15th April.

Todd Jordan, of One Inch Badge, said: ‘We are extremely excited to have been able to pair together one of the greatest song-writers of our time, with one of the most unique and inventive bands in Brighton’s history.’

Johnston, who is diagnosed with manic depression and schizophrenia and who was the subject of the 2006 documentary ‘The Devil And Daniel Johnston’, last visited the UK in August.

Tickets for the 750-capacity Brighton show are on sale now, with the London dates tickets going on sale tomorrow morning.
