Declan McKenna damns religion on ‘Bethlehem’ single
Songwriting prodigy takes on big topics on his new track.
Declan McKenna has unveiled his third single - the no-prisoners ‘Bethlehem’.
Last year’s Glastonbury Emerging Talent competition winner played a starry-eyed set on DIY’s Horatio’s stage at the Great Escape, last night. One thing’s for sure - with every step he takes, the teenager gets bolder and more assured.
‘Bethlehem’ (which follows the equally hard-hitting ‘Paracetamol’), finds Declan damning religion’s ugly grip on war and hate. And once again, tough topics are delivered through the prism of a smart, melodically sharp pop song.
Including another Great Escape show tonight, Declan plays these shows:
MAY
20 Brighton, Wagner Hall (The Great Escape)
27 Plymouth, The Underground
28 Exeter, Radio 1’s Big Weekend
JUNE
01 London, Courtyard Theatre
10 Coventry, The Empire
11 Aldershot, West End Centre
12 London, Field Day
17 Latitude Festival
22 Guildford, The Boileroom
23 Cardiff, Clwb Ifor Bach
23 Deer Shed Festival
28 Kendal Calling
29 Standon Calling
Declan McKenna will play Latitude Festival (14th-17th July) and Standon Calling (29th-30th July), where DIY is an official media partner. Tickets are on sale now. Visit diymag.com/presents for more information.
