Dexters: ‘The Songs Are Still Great & Can Speak For Themselves’

DIY catches up with Dexters, on the eve of their show with The Heartbreaks.

Tomorrow night is a pretty big night for some of us. England will be playing their final group game against Ukraine, which decides our fate and all of that, but more importantly, DIY have got a show! And a very special one at that.

After teaming up with Merc Clothing, we’re being let loose on The Social for one of four evenings, beginning tomorrow night and first up; The Heartbreaks.

Now, a headliner gets nowhere without their support, so we asked Dexters to come and join in the football-themed fun. And now, we’ve caught up with Tom Rowlett of the band, to find out how they’re feeling about it all.

‘We are looking forward to this show..’ begins Rowlett, before explaining that one of our teams may have sustained a bit of an injury. As it turns out, the band’s bassist has broken his arm, but never fear, they’ve got some back-up tactics. ‘We were due to play it with a full band but our bass player has hurt his arm and will be out of action for a few weeks.

‘That said we didn’t want to let you down, so we have worked out a special stripped back acoustic set which we are actually really excited about. They say you can tell a song is great if it still sounds mega when just played on a acoustic guitar, so that’s what we want to show people: that behind all the effects and stage presence, the songs are still great and can speak for themselves.’

Dexters will join The Heartbreaks at The Social tomorrow night (19th June). All ticket winners will have now been notified.
