DIY Weekly, 16th September 2013 - Out Now Feat. The Naked And Famous

In what’s technically the 50th edition of DIY (if you add the print and Weekly editions together - hey, any excuse for some bubbly, right?), New Zealand synth-poppers The Naked And Famous grace the cover.

They’re a band with a couple of nifty tips up their sleeves. Writing on the road is a stumbling block for many a touring act. Not these guys. Studio retreats near Glastonbury and crafty iPhone voice memos helped them put together latest album ‘In Rolling Waves’.

Also inside the new Weekly are Sebadoh, marking an almighty return with their first album in fourteen years. They claim criticism means sod all, while Lou Barlow also promises there’s plenty more to come. Find out what he has in store in the new issue.

Sky Larkin meanwhile are a band on a mission. After an enforced break they’ve hit back with a pure guitar record and they’re about to hit the road with DIY.

There’s a guide to the Mercury nominees (plus ‘insider tips’ on how to bag one), a look back on the week Arcade Fire stole the internet, plus word on Fall Out Boy, who might’ve just returned to their hardcore roots.

In reviews, the latest records from MGMT, Joanna Gruesome, Sky Larkin and more are given the DIY verdict. And in Neu, new bands such as Only Real are introduced, alongside an exclusive mix from San Mei and a review of BANKS’ debut ‘London’ EP.
