Drenge announce new EP ‘Autonomy’, share track ‘Before The War Begins’

It’s released in October.

Following their return in May with ‘This Dance’, the track unveiled alongside their ‘Grand Reopening’ UK tour, Drenge have announced details of a new EP, set for release this autumn.

‘Autonomy’ will be out on 5th October, and features four tracks - including ‘Before The War Begins’, which has also been shared today alongside the EP news.

“We are very proud to unveil our first foray into the Extended Player format,” say the band. “Recorded at McCall Sound on Sheffield’s own Sunset Strip with Ross Orton. ‘Autonomy’ showcases some of our recent work, by way of verses, choruses, middle eights and all that other stuff you learn at BRIT school. There’ll be a run of Robot-Coloured® vinyl which will be about the size and shape of a supermarket pizza. On the cover you can see our temporary mascot, DR3-NG3, a scientific research robot nearing the end of his functional capabilities and pursuing a quest for validation. Made in Sheffield.”

“‘Before The War Begins’ is half a love-song and half a hate-song,” Eoin explains. “Like most of our work, it’s a experiment in traditional songwriting gone wrong. A long hot summer and a hosepipe ban has the narrator comparing their deteriorating and dehydrated love life to a war torn city. Along the way they consider how 62 years after the Hungarian revolution there are still places where you can see the bullet holes in the walls in Budapest and how being whisked up by an exciting stranger translates to a long term relationship.”
