Emily Eavis received death threats for booking Kanye West at Glastonbury

Co-organiser says: “It was not a pleasant world we unwrapped.”

Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis has said that she received death threats after confirming Kanye West as a 2015 headliner.

Yeezy’s Worthy Farm debut was bizarrely met with controversy by a worthless corner of the internet. A petition called for Kanye to be replaced by a rock act - like Glasto’s other headliners, Foo Fighters and The Who - picking up over 130,000 signatures.

Two months on from the booking, Emily Eavis has described a “horrible” torrent of abuse she and her father Michael Eavis received.

“It was not a pleasant world we unwrapped,” she told The Times. “”I had death threats and stuff. It was just horrible. It was just crazy. It was getting out of control. We had Time magazine, all the American news channels saying they were going to come down. This incredible onslaught worldwide.

“It was quite upsetting because we were talking about something that was so exciting and interesting and fresh and brilliant for the festival. Kanye West is making the most exciting music at the moment. He is an amazing force as a performer. For us, getting the biggest star in the world was an amazing coup.”

Glastonbury is sold out, and runs from 24th-28th June at Worthy Farm.
