Empress Of covers Katy Perry’s ‘Hot n Cold’

Empress Of has put an entirely different spin on Katy Perry’s massive pop banger ‘Hot n Cold’ for Rookie Magazine’s Theme Song series.

Speaking about why she picked out this song in particular, Lorely Rodriguez talked about her love of Katy Perry, saying “she’s brilliant! I was thinking of songs [to record], and I was like Oh, I’ll do Johnny Cash. Then I thought about doing something direct, to the point, and really fun to cover. As an artist, I’m generally drawn to very obvious things, hence calling my album ‘Me’.” Referring to this being her first ever cover of another artist’s song, she added that “it was nice to remove the pressure of personal attachment and just have fun.”

In the same interview Empress Of also said she’d love to work with Azealia Banks in the future. “I’m so obsessed with her,” she told Rookie. “If I could throw a beat at her…she could literally read the newspaper over a beat I made, and I’d be so happy. I’m so stoked on her.”
