Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from flirting.
London five-piece flirting. are preparing to release their debut EP later this year, and their new track ‘Peppermint’ is today’s Neu Pick.
An indie-pop song that consistently shape-shifts, it’s an intriguing introduction to the unique band, helmed by the equally distinctive pair of vocals.
Poppy’s lead vocals are spiky and lightning fast, recalling Kate Nash in their tone, nearly half way to rapping. They’re contrasted with the monotone voice of Andy, a brilliantly sardonic counterpart, more often found in post-punk than this form of indie-pop.
Continuing to change and evolve throughout it’s five minutes, ‘Peppermint’ presents flirting. as a multi-faceted proposition, as well as an extremely exciting one.
The band’s debut EP will be out later this year - they play a headline show at the Old Blue Last in London on the 23rd June.
Listen to ‘Peppermint’ below.
