Foals: “I’m Just Pleased To Be At Number Two”
DIY caught up with frontman Yannis Philippakis for a chat about the band’s newly-crowned Number 2 album, ‘Holy Fire’.

Foals’ new record ‘Holy Fire’ launched its way into the album charts yesterday, landing at Number 2 - beaten only by the awfully persistent Les Miserables soundtrack.
Earlier today, DIY caught up with frontman Yannis Philippakis for a chat about the release, the follow up to 2008’s ‘Antidotes’ and 2010’s ‘Total Life Forever’.
“We went out for a few drinks with some friends, but we didn’t do anything too major,” he explained, when asked if the band went out to celebrate. “We got the midweek thing in on Wednesday at number one, so I think at that point we were expecting it to do well. Before that we weren’t, so it kind of took us by surprise. But definitely a pleasant surprise.”
They certainly weren’t bitter about being beaten by the ‘Les Miserables’ soundtrack, which also nearly stopped DIY cover stars Biffy Clyro from gaining their first Number 1 last month. “I’m just pleased to be at Number 2. We sold a lot of records, a surprising amount of records, given the fact that the industry’s in decline. I’m not really that bothered.”
Check back later this week for the full interview.
The Oxford five-piece recently unveiled a new video, containing some CCTV footage from their own rehearsing space and showcasing one of their newest songs, ‘Milk & Black Spiders’. Give it a watch below.
