Foals turned down Glastonbury surprise slot
Yannis Philippakis explained the band felt under-rehearsed and unfit.
In a new interview, Foals frontman Yannis Philippakis has revealed that the band were offered a surprise slot at Glastonbury Festival. After Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters broke his leg, and Florence + The Machine stepped up as headliners, there was a slot free second down on the Pyramid Stage bill. Although it was first offered to Foals, The Libertines eventually filled the scheduling gap.
Speaking to Q, Philippakis cited a lack of time to rehearse material from new album ‘What Went Down’ live as the main reason for turning down the slot. He also said that he didn’t feel the band were fit enough to pull the show off the way they’d like to. “I’d been smoking too much,” he said. “Our shows are so physical that I’d have been wheezing.”
