Foals unveil ‘London Thunder’ via CCTV session
Delicate number is taken from the band’s new album ‘What Went Down’, out this week.
With new album ‘What Went Down’ fast approaching, Foals have unveiled a new track, entitled ‘London Thunder’, via a performance video that forms part of their infamous CCTV sessions.
The stripped back, delicate number sits a mile away from the fury of ‘What Went Down”s title-track and lead single - the perfect subdued soundtrack to this not-particularly-summery weather we’re having. Stream the session below.
“It’s probably informed by touring, being absent in some way,” said the band’s Yannis Philippakis of the track in a brief chat with Mashable. “We’ve been to a lot of airports over the last few years, and sometimes there’s this cool melancholy to an airport at a certain hour of the evening. It’s about being away and having some sort of experience that changes you, and waiting to return, knowing that the world you’re returning to will be subtly different because you are.”
‘What Went Down’ is released on August 28th via Transgressive Records / Warner Music. Foals play a sort-of-pretty-tiny-for-them show at London’s Village Underground tomorrow, ahead of a ‘club’ tour in November. Last week, Reading & Leeds boss Melvin Benn hinted fairly heavily that they may be playing a surprise slot at this weekend’s festival - that’d be alright, wouldn’t it?
