Georgia Ruth Wins Welsh Music Prize 2013

Gwymon Records signing fights off competition from Sweet Baboo and Neon Neon to win the prize.

Georgia Ruth Wins Welsh Music Prize 2013

The third annual Welsh Music Prize has been awarded to Georgia Ruth, for her first full-length ‘Week of Pines’.

12 judges from within the industry selected Ruth from a shortlist of 11 albums, which also featured Neon Neon and Sweet Baboo among the competitors.

‘Week of Pines’ is out now on Gwymon. Co-founder of the prize Huw Stephens said: ‘Georgia’s hard work and unique talent has made her one of Wales’ favourite new artists, and her music in Welsh and English has found favour far beyond Wales. Her win is very well deserved!

The announcement’s been timed to tie in with the beginning of Cardiff’s Swn Festival, in which DIY’s hosting a stage tonight featuring Wolf Alice, Drenge, Pawws and more. See the full line-up here, it all kicks off around 7.30pm.
