Gnarwolves play rowdy afternoon set on barge in Camden Lock

The band performed a short gig in the middle of the canal to a crowd of fans and surprised shoppers.

Gnarwolves have played in plenty of weird places, but today marked their first live appearance surfing the waterways for Dr. Martens.

Following on from yesterday’s somewhat strange Twitter post - during which they announced they’d be “playing on a boat” at lunchtime today (Saturday 21st February) - they kept their promise.

Floating along into Camden Lock (delayed by some technical issues - bloody propellers), the band arrive to cheers and wolf howls from the hordes of fans who had been patiently waiting on both banks of the canal.

“Sorry we’re late!” frontman Thom Weeks calls out when the band take their places on top of the #STANDFORSOMETHING barge. “The traffic was terrible!”

Bursting into a gravelly rendition of ‘Bottle To Bottle’, it’s safe to say that the band have caught the attention of some rather bewildered onlookers. The streets surrounding the Lock are rammed with both fans and visitors to Camden all trying to catch an eyeful by the time time they dive into ‘Melody Has Big Plans’, and everyone is singing along.

“Well, this is a bit surreal!” Weeks laughs again, looking out at the crowds staring down at the water below them. Then, almost as soon as they arrive, it’s time for them to head off again. With a few nifty rope tricks and a celebratory rendition of ‘Smoking Kills’, they sail away on their barge just in time to incite some crowd surfing amongst the fans on the towpath.

Now that’s how you play a show on a boat.
