Gogol Bordello Confirm New Album ‘Pura Vida Conspiracy’
The gypsy punks have announced the follow-up to 2010’s ‘Trans-Continental Hustle’.
It feels like a little while since we last heard from those eccentric gypsy punks in Gogol Bordello but now they’re all set to return this summer.
This July, the eight-piece band - led, as ever, by Eugene Hutz - will be releasing their sixth studio album ‘Pura Vida Conspiracy’ on 23rd July (in the US) through ATO Records/Casa Gogol Records.
The record itself was recorded with Andrew Scheps at Sonic Ranch Studios in El Paso, TX and is - according to the band’s press release - ‘infused with ideas rooted in Eastern philosophy but also search for a means of joining fragmented parts and persons, and of creating a worldwide consciousness.’
Explaining further, Hutz has commented, “For me music is a way to explore human potential… And that’s my main interest in life – human potential. Everyone knows there’s something inside of us that we’re not using. How do we get it? How do we reach it? Every single person knows that there’s something and nobody knows what it is. So at one point I said to myself, ‘I’m gonna get down and get it.’”
Curious as to what they may have done next? Check out the first track taken from the record, ‘Malandrino’, here.
‘Pura Vida Conspiracy’ follows on from their 2010 album ‘Trans-Continental Hustle’.

3-5 Stars
A charming and invigorating release of gypsy-folk rhythms, punk spirit, positive philosophy and muddled syntax.

Dirty, fast, loud, sweaty… most importantly though, musically brilliant.
