Gorillaz’s Jamie Hewlett discusses upcoming The Suggestionists exhibition
The short clip previews the work on display at his Saatchi Gallery show.
Gorillaz member Jamie Hewlett has shared a short video clip where he discusses his upcoming art show at London’s Saatchi Gallery. Kicking off in mid November, ‘The Suggestionists’ will be his debut art show, and will focus on three different bodies of work; including ‘Tarot’ (a take on ‘tarotica’), ‘Honey’ (focusing on 60s and 70s exploitation movies) ‘Pines’ (detailed illustrations of trees).
“The more I worked on them, I realised the connection between them was suggestion,” Hewlett says, discussing the different exhibits. He also talks about how everything is delivered to us in “high-definition, graphic over-kill.” “It’s robbing us of the ability to imagine what happens next, for ourselves,” he continues. “That’s why the exhibition is called The Suggestionists’.”
Speaking to DIY recently, Hewlett confirmed that work on the new Gorillaz record is underway, with new material expected in 2016.
The Suggestionists opens at the Saatchi Gallery in London on 18th November and runs until 2nd December.
