Neu Pick
Goss delivers slick, shuffling pop banger, ‘Waterfall’
Alt-pop newcomer’s second track is a Jai Paul-nodding call to arms.
Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from Goss.
Back in June, MØ-approved producer / buzzy talent Goss released his debut track ‘I Want to Know????’. The question marks weren’t required - it was a seriously assured introduction.
A cross between Mura Masa’s arena-ready dance and the less introverted, mysterious Jai Paul cuts, Goss’ first step was a straight-up pop banger dressed in a stranger’s clothes. We went mad for it in our weekly new music guide, The Neu Bulletin.
‘Waterfall’ is more of the same, proof that a seriously exciting pop talent has landed out of nowhere. His second ever track, it finds Goss working with Danish producer Vasco - last time round, he teamed up with Liss’ “fifth member” Vera. Kicking off with jagged, Jungle-esque funk guitar lines, it finds the newcomer matching frazzled falsetto with super-slick, shuffling production. Throw in a trusty dose of euphoria and the result is a late-blooming entry for one of the summer’s most joyous, free-thinking pop tracks.
Featuring Yard Act, Death Cab For Cutie, Graham Coxon, Maisie Peters and more.
