Rock the Vote
Grimes recreates a famous political ad in favour of Hillary Clinton
The advert is based on a 1964 campaign advert for Democrat Lyndon B. Johnson
It probably hasn’t escaped your notice that there’s quite a big election going on today, and Local Natives (with the help of Election FM) have already given Americans another reason to rock the vote. Now Grimes has weighed in with a short clip in support of Hillary Clinton.
The video recreates a famous political advert from the 1964 U.S. Presidential election, which encouraged people to vote for Lyndon B. Johnson. In it, a young girl picks off the petals of a flower before a nuclear bomb goes off. In the new version, Grimes’ hands picks the petals, but the end result is pretty much the same.
If the message wasn’t clear enough, Grimes herself says: “Vote for Secretary Clinton on November 8. The stakes are too high for you to stay at home.” On Twitter she wrote “please don’t let the world down.”
