Heckler forces Morrissey to storm off stage

Ex-Smiths singer pulls plug on Warsaw gig six songs in.

Adding to a touring career blighted by cancellation and controversy, Morrissey was forced to leave the stage during a performance in Warsaw on Wednesday night after becoming the victim of a heckler’s “offensive and chauvinistic” attack, cancelling the gig outright, presumably too upset to carry on.

Coming in the midst of a European tour, which is set to call into London and Dublin at the end of the month, there have also been suggestions that the heckler made insensitive allusions to the singer’s recent health issues. The 55 year-old previously revealed that he’d undergone treatment for cancer back in October.

Live Nation, overseeing the run of dates, has pledged to allow Warsaw ticket holders into tonight’s Krakow gig free of charge.

The latest instalment in a history of abandoned gigs, this isn’t the first time that the ex-Smiths man has abandoned a gig at its mid-way point. In 2009, he famously left the stage when hit by a plastic bottle and, in the same year, also cut his Coachella slot short, proclaiming disgust at the “smell of burning animals.”
