hemlocke springs unveils details of debut album 'the apple tree under the sea'

Alt-pop riser and DIY Class of 2024 member hemlocke springs has announced that her debut full-length, ‘the apple tree under the sea’, will be hitting shelves on 13th February via AWAL.

The album will act as a follow up proper to her 2023 EP ‘going..going…GONE!’, and comes in the wake of support slots with Conan Gray and Chappell Roan, where hemlocke played to crowds across the US.

Explaining more about the LP’s concept - a narrative which sees our protagonist embark on a voyage of self-discovery, prompted by a knowledge-unlocking red apple - she has shared: “I grew up very religiously - Christianity is very pertinent in Nigerian culture and the Black community - and I was also obedient to my elders.

“This album starts with a character going through the desert who says, ‘I’m going to do your will.’ They could be saying it to God or a man, but then they come across the apple. It’s about me being in this bubble, and realizing that being in that bubble was tougher than I thought, and then finally getting out and exploring who I really am.”

Ushering in this next era is new single ‘head, shoulders, knees and ankles’, which takes inspiration from a nightmare hemlocke had about trying to fight off an attacker to express the struggle of stepping into her true self. Watch its visualiser here:
