With Austin’s annual new music gathering over for another year, Gengahr tell us about their first time playing the festival.

It’s become something of a calendar tradition; every March the brightest, shiniest new lights in music pack up their bags, stow their instruments away in aeroplane holds, and head en masse on Austin. Well over two thousand bands descended last week, majority of them running a tight schedule, and playing mammoth numbers of gigs across the city.

Because they’re sweet like that, DIY Class of 2015 graduates Gengahr sent us a postcard-style account of their first time playing SXSW:

“We’ve been having a great time out in Austin,” said frontman Felix Bushe. ” The people are lovely, the food’s great, and the music is everywhere. It’s sort of like Glastonbury spread out over an entire city.” Gengahr aren’t the first band to enthuse wildly about the culinary treats on offer in Austin, either - Spring King also waxed lyrical to us about their favourite taco joints.

“It’s just crazy,” adds Felix. “There are bars in every other building, and each one is relentless, spilling out with great sounds. It’s a musical dreamland.”
