Jack White performs ‘That Black Bat Licorice’ On Fallon
Ex-White Stripes frontman brings barnstorming ‘Lazaretto’ cut to live TV.
White Stripe. Raconteur. Dead Weather-er. Topps Baseball Card. Jack White has, over an extensive musical career, done it all. Last night saw him call into The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon to pour US television audiences a fiery measure of latest material, in the form of ‘That Black Bat Licorice’, a stand-out track from 2014’s ‘Lazaretto’.
After a gushing introduction that saw Fallon label him a “29-time Grammy nominee’ and wax lyrical over the impressive design permutations of ‘Lazaretto’s’ vinyl pressing, the Detroit-bred veteran led his live band through a blistering version rendition of the aforementioned track. Sporting a well-oiled quiff in place of his customary scraggly logs, the shiny-suited frontman lent the song a guttural howl, presiding over crunching violin strings, histrionic solos and fizzing cymbals like an inebriated landlord refereeing a bar-room brawl.
White now heads on a small tour of South America before making the trip back northwards to headline both weekends of Coachella in April.
