Hat's a surprise
James Bay wins BRIT Awards Critics’ Choice 2015
Hat-wearing folksmith pips Years & Years and George the Poet to the prize.
James Bay has won the 2015 BRIT Awards Critics’ Choice, beating Years & Years and George the Poet to the new music prize.
The bookies favourite is also part of the BBC Sound of 2015 longlist. Previous winners of the Critics’ Choice include Florence & The Machine, Sam Smith and Adele. Future’s bright for James Bay, then. His debut album is set for Spring 2015, produced by Jacquire King.
Receiving the award, Bay said: “I’m pretty speechless. After all the years I’ve spent watching the BRITs and even after this year; watching my fan base grow so much, I never thought I’d actually be getting an award myself. And what a huge honour to be following the incredible artists who’ve won before! I’m really chuffed, thank you to everyone who has supported me.”
The award will be presented at a ITV-aired show ‘The BRITs Are Coming’, on 15th January 2015. Bay will perform, with FKA twigs and Clean Bandit also set to appear.
2015’s BRIT Awards will take place on 25th February at The O2 Arena, aired live on ITV.
Featuring Yard Act, Death Cab For Cutie, Graham Coxon, Maisie Peters and more.
