She has also shared her new single ‘Lipstick Lover’.
Janelle Monáe has returned by announcing the release of her new album ‘The Age of Pleasure’.
Alongside the news, she has also shared her new single, ‘Lipstick Lover’. Watch the video, directed by Monáe and Alan Ferguson, below.
The album is set for release on 9th June via Wondaland Arts Society/Atlantic Records. It will be her first studio album since 2018’s ‘Dirty Computer’. The album will also include her recent single ‘Float’, which featured Seun Kuti + Egypt 80.
Speaking about the new single, Monáe has said, “As we enter into The Age Of Pleasure, ‘Lipstick Lover’ is our freeassmothafucka anthem inspired by f.a.m. for f.a.m. This is our oasis made with love, rooted in self-acceptance, throbbing in self-discovery, and signed with cherry red kisses from me to you.”
‘Lipstick Lover’ was first previewed at Monáe’s appearance at a Met Gala after-party, playing the songs to the crowd there to gauge their response.
In addition to music, Monáe is also developing an extensive acting career, which has included roles in ‘Moonlight’, ‘Hidden Figures’ and ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’.
Janelle Monáe plays Mad Cool (6th - 8th July), where DIY is a media partner. Head to the festival’s website for more info, and to buy tickets.
