Japanese Breakfast shares a new video for ‘The Body Is A Blade’
It’s been partly pieced together using old family photographs.

A few months back, Michelle Zauner – better known as Japanese Breakfast – released her second album ‘Soft Sounds From Another Planet’.
Now she’s got a new video for ‘The Body Is A Blade’, which she directed herself with frequent collaborator Adam Kolodny as cinematographer. It’s a personal look into her past, as shots of Michelle are put alongside old family photographs, especially of her mother.
Speaking of the video, Michelle said: “I’ve always loved the way old photographs look. For this video I spent a lot of time searching family albums for sets of old photographs to animate”. She continued: “I wanted this video to commemorate my mother who died three years ago today. It felt fitting for the song to create a really personal mixed media piece, almost like a moving scrapbook”.
Early next month Japanese Breakfast is set to bring her European tour to the UK to play a string of dates. Tickets are on sale now.
Earlier in the year we talked to Japanese Breakfast about ‘Soft Sounds From Another Planet’. Catch up here.

Japanese Breakfast: Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness
With her last album ‘Jubilee’, Japanese Breakfast’s Michelle Zauner found herself a GRAMMY-nominated artist with a New York bestseller to her name, but no amount of critical acclaim will shift the reality of loss. Now, ten years on from the passing of her mother, her grief is still unfolding, and she’s channelling it into the dark new world of ‘For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women)’.
