Jenny & Johnny pen ‘In April’ for Song One soundtrack

Jenny Lewis and Johnathan Rice have scored the full Brooklyn-based romance movie.

She may have spent most of 2014 concentrating on releasing her first solo album in six years, but that wasn’t enough to keep Jenny Lewis busy. Recently, while she’s not been taking her album on the road, Lewis has been working with longtime collaborator Johnathan Rice - their official moniker being Jenny & Johnny - on the score for a brand new movie, due out early next year.

Starring Anne Hathaway and directed by Kate Barker-Froyland, Song One is a Brooklyn-based romance that - according to Rolling Stone - sees Hathaway contacting everyone in her comatose brother’s notebook. One of those characters is a singer-songwriter who goes by the name of James Forester, who incidentally performs the first track to have emerged from the soundtrack.

Titled ‘In April’, the track - whilst written by Jenny & Johnny - is performed by actor Johnny Flynn, and according to Barker-Froyland, allowed for his character to really take shape during the script-writing process.

“While I was rewriting the script in New York, Jenny and Johnathan were creating these amazing songs in L.A.,” she told Rolling Stone. “I only had placeholders for the songs in the script, and as Jenny and Johnathan sent me demos it made James’ character begin to come to life.”

Have a listen to ‘In April’ below, and expect Song One to hit cinemas at the end of January 2015.

Jenny & Johnny’s debut album ‘I’m Having Fun Now’ was released back in 2010.
