Jorja Smith marks 10 years of ‘Blue Lights’ with ‘Demo Dump ‘16’
The three-track project has been left exactly as it was in 2016, when it was first uploaded to SoundCloud.

A decade on from dropping ‘Blue Lights’ - the game-changing single that made her a musical force to be reckoned with - Jorja Smith has now offered up ‘Demo Dump ‘16’, a collection of three 90-second demos that arrive exactly as they were back in 2016 - unmixed, unpolished, but still remarkably emotionally resonant.
Made up of ‘Somebody Else’ (produced by Bruno Major), ‘Beneficial’ (produced by Joice), and ‘Don’t Leave’ (produced by New Machine), the project - much like ‘Blue Lights’ itself - sees Jorja ruminate on the realities of everyday life in Britain, vocalising often unspoken truths about interpersonal relationships and our sociopolitical climate.
What’s more, tomorrow (Tuesday 20th January), fans will be able to vote for their favourite of the three tracks via Instagram, after which the winning song will be officially released on 20th February.
Since dropping ‘Blue Lights’, Jorja has gone on to release two studio albums: her 2018 debut ‘Lost & Found’, and 2023’s ‘falling or flying’. And, to commemorate the anniversary, she’s also set to share a special four-track ‘Blue Lights’ vinyl (out on 13th February), featuring the original track, the instrumental, her Tiny Desk performance, and her Machiavelli Sessions performance.
