Justin Vernon And Astronautalis Set To Collaborate

The Bon Iver frontman had teamed up with the Minneapolis-based intellectual rapper.

It looks as though Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon is collaborating with Minneapolis-based rapper Astronautalis.

In an interview with Astronautalis - real name Andy Bothwell - the rapper revealed that the pair visited Vernon’s cabin to record some new material.

Having ‘a creative break at the same time’, the pair also utilised the talents of Bon Iver drummer S. Carey and producer Ryan Olson, to record eight pieces of music, before coupling them with eight hours of freestyling.

And how was the process? Bothwell commented: ‘There were several times during those three days where I couldn’t believe that a sound just fell perfectly into place. Often times you get one of those when you make a record, or two of those, over the course of weeks and weeks and weeks. This process was exhilarating, and it drove us further. We were originally going to be down there for a day.’

However, their project may not be what anyone is expecting. ‘A lot of fans are like, ‘Oh, this is going to be amazing: Astronautalis rapping and Justin singing choruses.’ It’s not going to be that… Everyone’s fans respectively are going to expect certain things… I think everyone should abandon their expectations of what it’s going to be, because it’s probably going to be very far off.”

Other than the fact that a series of songs are recorded, release dates and details are currently unknown.
