Kate Nash: ‘It’s Important To Try And Break Boundaries’
DIY Radio’s very own Jordan Smith finds out just what’s been happening with this week’s girl in question.

She’s been turning heads lately with her brand new Riot Grrrl-esque offering ‘Under-Estimate The Girl’ and a complete change of style, so what is really going on with Kate Nash?
Well, DIY Radio’s own Jordan Smith decided to have a chat with the lady herself, to find out some extra details about her latest track to hit the airwaves.
So, how was it that the brand new track came about? ‘I’ve just recorded my new album in LA for two months and I’ve been in an emotional place where I really need to be on the road, to be touring, playing music and being creative. I have loads of ideas all the time.
‘We had just finished rehearsal and I was really pissed off about something, so I just stayed on my own and wrote this song. Then, the next day, I did a couple of interviews and then at 3pm, I was like, ‘Right girls, we’re recording this new song.’ Then, from 10pm until 4am we shot a music video. It was in my rehearsal room and we did it all in the same place in Bethnal Green.’
And obviously, it’s a pretty big departure from previous material: ‘My last album sort of hints towards this side of me, but I think I’ve just gone with it and run with it. I think it’s important to try and break boundaries and be brave, and piss people off a little bit.
And people will always be asking, is this the same singer who once made ‘Made Of Bricks’? ‘To be honest, I’m 24 and I wrote some of those songs when I was 16, so it’s obvious that humans just change. With artists, I think it’s really important to push yourself and grow and change, because if you recreate the same old stuff, that would be completely pointless and really dull.’
To have a listen to the full interview with Kate and Jordan, simply tune into Dead Air this evening from 6pm to 8pm on DIY Radio.
