Kendrick Lamar opens up about Ferguson verdict
The rapper has discussed racial tensions in America, in an interview with Billboard.
Kendrick Lamar has opened up about recent events in Ferguson, Missouri in an interview with Billboard. According to the Californian, the initial incident - during which police shot dead unarmed teenager Michael Brown - “should’ve never happened”.
Lamar - who features on the cover of this month’s Billboard magazine - also touched upon Eric Garner’s death in the interview, whilst highlighting the animosity between officers and African Americans by briefly mentioning his previous experiences with LAPD, saying his treatment was unjust “plenty of times”.
Elsewhere in the interview - as previewed on the website yesterday - he also lends support to Iggy Azalea, who was recently targeted by Azealia Banks on social media. Lamar was quoted as saying: “She’s doing her thing - let her. People have to go through trials and tribulations to get where they at. Do your thing, continue to rock it, because obviously God wants you there.”
Kendrick Lamar’s forthcoming album is expected to be released this year. Listen to ‘i’, which is taken from the release, below.
