Out now!
Killer Mike is on the cover of DIY’s June 2023 issue!
The Run The Jewels star is joined by the likes of Grian Chatten, Maisie Peters, Dream Wife and Baxter Dury this month.
Over the course of over twenty years now, Killer Mike has not just become one of the most fierce and formidable voices in rap but in the wider socio-political landscape. While previously, we’ve welcomed him to DIY’s cover alongside his partner-in-crime El-P (as the ferocious duo Run The Jewels), this month we’re honoured to be welcoming Mike back to celebrate his deeply personal solo record ‘Michael’.
“I felt compelled as the son of this city,” he tells us, referring back to 2020 when he appeared at the Atlanta Mayor’s press conference in the midst of protests following the murder of George Floyd. “I felt compelled as a product of my grandparents’ household. I felt compelled as my mother’s son to do what was right in the moment. I didn’t wanna be there; I wish you motherfuckers that criticised me could have made the speech.”
Elsewhere this month, Fontaines DC frontman Grian Chatten gives us a glimpse into his new solo outing, we meet pop’s most bewitching act Maisie Peters to chat about her forthcoming album ‘The Good Witch’, and we limber up for Dream Wife’s electric (and brilliantly-titled) third album ‘Social Lubrication’.
We convene with the always-charming Baxter Dury to ponder life, get a little deep with Protomartyr, and talk mystique with The Japanese House. Plus, we give you the full report from Blur’s tiny reunion shows last month, ahead of their upcoming stint at Wembley Stadium in July; be still our beating hearts…
We’ve also got Neu profiles with buzzy new acts Militarie Gun, feeble little horse, McKinley Dixon and Alice Low, and we catch up with Glasto first-timers Crawlers ahead of their debut visit to Worthy Farm later this month.
