Killer Mike speaks out following deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile in U.S.
“I’m ashamed to be a part of this country,” he said.

Killer Mike has spoken out following the tragic deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile last week in the U.S.
Both were black men killed by white American police officers last week in separate incidents. Following their deaths, five white police officers were shot dead during protests in Dallas.
“I’m angry, I’m hurt, I’m disgusted,” said Killer Mike, speaking on Atlanta radio station Hot 107.9. “I’m ashamed to be a part of this country… It is time to get angry and do something. It is time to prevent these abusers and these police who abuse the law.”
As Rolling Stone reports, Killer Mike also urged Americans to boycott large multi-national corporations who do not support the black community. “You can go to your bank tomorrow and you can say ‘Until you as a corporation start to speak on our behalf, I want all my money. And I’m taking all my money to a citizen’s trust,” he said.
Killer Mike is a vocal speaker in the Black Lives Matter movement. He has spoken at length following riots in both Baltimore and Ferguson, and has also given a lecture on the subject of American race relations at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as well as speaking at the White House. Run the Jewels donated all the profits from their ‘Meow the Jewels’ cat remix album to the families of Michael Brown and Eric Garner, two black men who were killed by police in America.
Speaking to DIY last year, Killer Mike said “As a black man, and a father of two boys in America, I feel a responsibility to [speak out]. There are not a lot of people doing it in a way that I view as effective. There are not a lot of people who understand the perspective, the pressure it is to be a young African-American male in America. I have the perspective of having a policeman as a father,” he adds. “I think there are extremes, extremists on both sides just shouting for the other side to lose. I don’t see a lot of growth coming out of that.”
