Kurt Cobain’s ‘Montage of Heck’ documentary to feature unheard songs

A forthcoming, official documentary about the life of Kurt Cobain is set to feature previously unheard material from the Nirvana frontman.

‘Montage of Heck’ is set to air this spring on HBO and in UK cinemas. Dubbed the first “fully authorised” Cobain documentary, his daughter, Frances Bean, is an executive producer. Brett Morgen directs the film.

In a new official description by HBO, the film is set to gain a “no-holds-barred access to Cobain’s archives, home to his never-before-seen home movies, recordings, artwork, photography, journals, demos, personal archives and songbooks.” It’s also said to feature “previously unheard Cobain originals,” alongside Nirvana classics.

The film’s been in development since 2006, with archive access being granted by Courtney Love. Morgen is said to have come across “200 hours of unreleased music and audio, a vast array of art projects (oil paintings, sculptures), countless hours of never-before-seen home movies, and over 4,000 pages of writings.”
