Lady Gaga performs Sound of Music medley at the Oscars 2015

Last week, it was announced that Lady Gaga, the Queen of Artpop, would be performing at this year’s Oscars Ceremony. Confirmed by the ceremony’s producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, her appearance came billed as “a special tribute performance” and during last night’s 87th Academy Awards giveaway, all was revealed.

Taking to the stage, Gaga performed a medley of tracks as taken from The Sound of Music in all their simplistic gloriousness, which included classics ‘The Hills Are Alive’, ‘My Favourite Things’ and ‘Climb Ev’ry Mountain’. Her set was scheduled to celebrate the musical’s 50th anniversary, after its release back in 1965.

Needless to say, it was great. So great that even Dame Julie Andrews - who joined Gaga on stage to speak about the film after the performance drew to a close - congratulated the singer on her appearance: “Dear Lady Gaga, thank you for that wonderful tribute, it really warmed my heart.”
